I am installing a blog design on a friend’s blog who previously installed a premade template from another site. It was uploaded as an XML file. When I enter the code to try and insert the background, header, etc., it won’t show up. I don’t know if the previously installed layout is blocking any changes I make, but I can’t seem to get around it. HELP!
I’ve got her blog on the old Blogger interface and on the Minima template to install, but can’t seem to figure it out! Please help me asap! Thanks!!

I recommend using Firebug to helps you to edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript live in any web page.

You may want to double check ALL of the gadgets to make sure that none of them has any type of template coding – like those from a free background website.

Hi Liz! Its been quite a while since I checked this — had a baby boy on April 11th, so I have been out of commission 😉
I have not figured this out yet. My client installed a blog template from Hot Bloggity Blog. I installed all her elements but her background won’t show and her menu bar color won’t change. I am trying to figure it out still! Here is the website:

Did you try going through all her widgets to see if you could fine the hotbliggityblog html widget? Most likely it’s an unnamed HTML widget.
When I look in firebug it shows that the background image is still there. This is what firebug shows:

background-attachment: fixed;
background-image: url(“http://imgur.com/V3xr1.jpg”);
background-position: center center;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
}
The url is the hot bliggity blog background.
What color are you trying to make the navbar? Right now i see a hot pink nav bar that looks like it is also a HTML Widget.
What have you tried doing?

Woohoo! THANK YOU! I found a widget I somehow overlooked and deleted it and the background is fixed! 😉 For the nav bar, I can’t seem to get the nav bar links to be white while keeping the sidebar links grey (#999999). Tips?

Have you tried changing the navbar links in template designer? I’m pretty sure you can change them easily there as well as your sidebar links.

Well, it will only let me change the link color. So every link on the page is the same color. If I change it to white, the links in her posts won’t show up since her post background is white. I changed the color to a darker grey (#666666) and they are more readable. I think that may have to be the solution for now, I guess!

I checked and if you change the “Tabs Text” it will change the color of the navigation menu text.
If you click on “gadgets” it will change the sidebar and the date text color.
That should do it.

Thank you so much! I actually no longer have access to her blog. I made the menu bar items a dark grey for the time being and she decided she liked it that way. THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping me!!!! 🙂
